Hello, again. This is the January 2008 update to the KGB reunion. Some of the information is a repeat from the last e-mail. As always, the most up-to-date information is available at <http://wiki.cmukgb.org/index.php/Anniversary_Party>. The best way to contact the planning committee is to send e-mail to jay at laefer dot com.

Some of the information below is a repeat of previous e-mails. Please make sure to check out the new sections on Headcount and the Commemorative Gift.

Headcount

In an attempt to gauge how many people will be attending, please add yourselves to the Evite at <http://www.evite.com/pages/invite/viewInvite.jsp?event=TOGHSGESAOWSGQIGDCGA#>

This is not the formal registration. That will be sent out in a few weeks.

Hotel Reservations

We have a block of rooms reserved at the Holiday Inn. Discounts are available for Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights. The rate is $121/night. When you make the reservation, use the group code (from the e-mail). The phone number for the hotel is (412) 682-6200. You must make your reservation by March 25th, 2008.

Please do not share this code with non-reunion folks. There are a finite number of rooms at that rate. If you call the hotel and they can't give you the rate, please drop us a line.

Underwriting

We're accepting donations to help defray reunion expenses. If you're interested in contributing, please contact us.

Commemorative Gift

We would like to create a commemorative gift for those attending the reunion, and that can be ordered by those who can’t make it.

Specifically, we would like to try to produce a custom photo book—but we can’t do it without you! We are looking for photos on specific themes, and of certain objects, from all 20 years of KGB. Below are descriptions and instructions of what we need *now*--there may be a follow-up request later.

Please read this information carefully so we can do a great job for you.

FILES CAN BE SENT TO ghiapet72 at aol dot com. All photos MUST be received by MARCH 1.

SUPER IMPORTANT—MUST HAVE! We need the KGB logo in EPS or Illustrator format—at minimum the original, but we also like the sort of crest that appears on the current web site.

PHOTO SPECIFICATIONS:

- Please send or scan at the highest resolution possible. The book will be 7" W x 5" H.

- Photos 1200x1600 pixels and up work best.

- Please provide some kind of caption or description.

- To be considered for a full-page photo, the original will need to be around 2000x1400 pixels minimum. Not every picture will be full-page, of course.

- File format should be *best-quality* JPG or TIFF.

- NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY, PLEASE (unless it’s a cool night scene).

- No pictures of individuals. Group shots are okay.

- Not all photos will be used. We appreciate your help in gathering a large selection so that we can pick the best ones across the past 20 years.

- Sorry, but there's no compensation for the photos you contribute, but we can give you a photo credit.

- By sending us photos, you agree that they can be used in this project or by the KGB.

THEME 1: BOOTH

We are currently aware of about 15 KGB booths. We would like to have:

- Pictures of each booth For each booth, please include this info: year, name, game name/desc., award or place, name of Booth Chair. Optional: short and amusing quote.

- Pictures of each booth T-shirt. (see section below) Please include designer name if known.

- Pictures of any corresponding Buggy T-shirt. (see section below) Please include designer name if known.

- Pictures of "booth ephemera" (the game, prizes, buttons, the Czar...) Please include description/caption.

THEME 2: OTHER T-SHIRTS

- Pictures of any NON-Booth/Buggy T-shirts, sweatshirts, etc. Please include this info: year, name of designer. (see section below )

THEME 3: OTHER KGB MEMORABILIA / JUNK / TREASURED MOMENTS

- Pictures or scans of recruitment posters, buttons, stickers, ID cards, Fence paintings, etc.

PHOTOGRAPHING T-SHIRTS

There are two good ways to approach this. in both cases, use bright interior or natural light—no flash photography! Pictures of fronts and backs (if applicable) are good.

Method 1: Put T-shirt on hanger in front of a wall, preferably of a slightly different color.

Method 2: "The torso method": Have an average-size male model the shirt holding his arms slightly away from his body. (Male models are preferable so as to avoid ... distortion of the design.) Take a picture in front of a wall or sunny spot with a not-too-busy background, preferably of a slightly different color. We'll cut the person out, leaving just the shirt.

We should probably have all shirts shot in one style or the other. Method 1 is probably easiest for everyone.

Lost & Found

We're hoping for a great turnout, but we need your help. Here's a list of everyone who's ever been a member (that we know about). If you see a name you recognize and it doesn't have "(found)" next to it, please forward this message to that person, or let us know how to reach them. If there are missing names, please let us know.

We won't share your e-mail addresses with anyone without your explicit permission.

An up-to-date lost & found list can be seen at <http://www.laefer.com/kgb/members.pdf>.

Looking forward to seeing you all in April,

The KGB Reunion Planning Committee
