This is not the thank-you page; this is a skeweringly analytical interrogation of our souls, on behalf of the 25th Anniversary Party Committee -- or whoever wants to throw another one of these things. Tell them what is important for them to know!

("It was perfect" is a fine thing to say, but details are keen too.)

== Overall ==

On the [[Anniversary Party]] page, Jay says "The Saturday lunch is the big event. If you can only attend one, please come to the lunch." IMHO, this turned out not to be the case. Friday night was the big event for me. (Nearly) everybody was there, and I got to see everybody; it was big and fluid and open. Saturday was a day of getting together in small groups for longer periods of time. (--zarf)

(To be clear: it was very good that the big open event was first and the lunch was second. I would just bill Friday as the shindig and Saturday as the followup.)

I would suggest that the difference between the two was that Friday's theme was "Look at all the KGB people" and that Saturday's was "The History of KGB" with the memorabilia and longer remarks. As to which one was more or less important, I think that depends on your point of view. (--mg2x)

Friday officer reports went on a little long -- as I said, I was more in the mood to circulate chaotically. But obviously if they had been shunted to Saturday, then Saturday would have gone on ''way'' too long. Maybe would have been better if just the presidents had given individual reports, and the other officer cadres had had collective goofiness to present. (--zarf)

Ran out of bottled water early. I think it was non-diet soda that was left over.

Snacks were heavily overbought; but they made their way to the hospitality suite on Saturday, and the leftovers from that are being trucked to campus for the next regular KGB meeting. (Or booth teardown?) So no problem there.

The only issue I had with the Pizza Night was the pizza, there was pizza. Huge quantities of pizza. ANd people were carrying it out by boxes. My suggestion would be more veggies and fruit plates. Other than that, everything rocked. And I liked the officer reports, but we should have a filler. If you can't think of something to say, just say your name and year. -kconnors

After 2:00, a lot of people formed a lot of plans for what to do next. Chaotic. I stuck in Goob's company, and he was somewhat tuned into both the older and younger crowds; but not everybody is. It might have been good to have a big chart-paper up for people to write "Hey! Party over here!" "Bunch of us going out to dinner over there!" Etc. On the other hand, perhaps people ''wanted'' to plan for tighter groups. I only raise the issue because I really enjoyed the cross-generational aspect of the weekend. (--zarf)

At some point during his [[President|presidency]], [[Abe]], intent on finding a [[The real world|job]] in the game industry, had an on-campus interview with [[Microsoft]]. The interview went on in a small room in the [[dungeons]] of the [[University Center]]. There was your usual technical question and then the topic shifted towards general matters, and it went something like this:

"I notice you've written on your résumé that you're the president of the [[Carnegie Mellon]] [[KGB]]," said the interviewer, a guy in his late 30s or early 40s who had worked on various Windows platform bits.

"Oh, yes," said Abe, who was accustomed to this coming up, "[[KGB]] is a social organization on campus..." and on. "It's a good time. We have weekly [[meetings]] and abide by [[Robert's Rules of Order]], so--"

The interviewer butted in, somewhat surprised, "[[Still! Huh.]]"

"Oh." This was unexpected. "Yeah..."

"I was the founding [[treasurer]] of the [[KGB]]."

Abe apparently passed the on-campus interview in spite of completely bombing the aforementioned technical question, and proceeded to the phone screen stage.

While many former KGB folks have worked at Microsoft, including the founding corresponding secretary [[Dan Lovinger]], Chris Newman only worked for Microsoft as a summer intern once in 1988 so he wasn't part of this particular story.

Well, I really don't remember the guy's name, but I definitely had an on-campus interview with someone who declared himself as the founding treasurer of KGB. Pretty sure it was treasurer. Could've been * secretary. [[User:Arwong|Arwong]] 03:07, 7 January 2008 (EST)

Since I was the founding treasurer and the organization had no money, it seemed appropriate to ask for money during the Treasurer's report. So I started doing that, and resourceful KGB members decided to take the request literally in the form of one cent coins flying in the general direction of the treasurer. I found it entertaining so it became a tradition (cue fiddler on the roof music).

So what about having the party in [http://www.housing.cmu.edu/TheUnderground/ The Underground]? It's right near Midway, serves food and beverages, has some comfy seating, and plenty of room. A bunch of us alumni hung out there once during Carnival and it was OK. The food was OK (Gullifty's menu), but nothing special. The party could supply appetizers, drinks, some entrees like salads or sandwiches. No alcohol, probably, but maybe that would be OK if everything else was acceptable. The main "pros" are proximity and atmosphere. Also, if KGB reserves it, it's probably free. This booth was KGB's second booth ever and its first victory. It won first place in the Independant category, but was very stressful and expensive for the organization to build. It sure was beautiful, though.

The booth was a recreation of Saint Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, and was topped with colorful onion domes. The interior was fully drywalled and painted, and contained original painted artwork. The game was exciting and difficult, and consisted of trying to knock down a succession of dolls using tennis ball "bombs". The prizes for fully completing the game were authentic Russian "city pins".

A bunch of us alumni hung out there once during Carnival and it was OK. The food was OK (Gullifty's menu), but nothing special. The party could supply appetizers, drinks, some entrees like salads or sandwiches. No alcohol, probably, but maybe that would be OK if everything else was acceptable. The main "pros" are proximity and atmosphere. Also, if KGB reserves it, it's probably free. The "What if..." table tent campaign was a provocative informational campaign produced by the CMU department of Student Affairs in the early 1990's. It consisted of placing discussion "stimulating" table tents on the tables of various student dining establishments around campus. This campaign was derided by many students at the time, but one of KGB's officers at the time (whose name rhymes with Shike Mapiro) went the extra mile and wrote three parodies of the tents, delivering his parodies during his weekly report. KGB, always willing to take that extra mile and go one step too far, voted to fund the production of actual table tents using those texts. Tents were laid out, copied, and placed around campus. KGB never got in trouble, but the tents disappeared pretty quickly.

"The House of Everything" (HoE) was the nickname given to the rental property located at [http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&q=&ll=40.446,-79.928099&spn=0.0017,0.001717&t=k&z=19&om=1 5611 Fair Oaks Street] in Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill neighborhood by its first known KGB residents. The name comes from the newspaper advertisement for the property which claimed that the apartment was "newly renovated" and "has everything". The HoE was the location for numerous game nights, a few parties (including the once legendary "Spaceport Bar" party), and much nefarious KGB-related planning.

The original residents of the HoE were:
