That's an optical mouse from a Sun 3 workstation. What a terrible mouse. It only worked on these special striped metal pads -- or, when those wore out, on a piece of paper with stripes laser-printed onto it. Those wore out too.
The point of the logo is that it's approximately a Soviet hammer and sickle. Don't worry -- the first time I saw it, I didn't get it either.
This logo was designed by Danny Fahs in (I think) Adobe Illustrator.
