Panther Hollow is a ravine of sorts that runs between CMU and University of Pittsburgh. It is so called because of a yearly holiday event that took place there. The taxidermied skins of the native Allegheny Panther were brought in, stuffed with candy, and hung from trees while local children battered them, blindfolded, for fun and profit. The railway currently running through Panther Hollow now made this event more difficult and, subsequently, its popularity declined.
