An emoji is a pictogram that is used in digital conversation to convey some sort of meaning.
In 2020-2021, the COVID-19 pandemic forced GBMs and events to be held virtually, usually over Discord. This allowed emojis to be used during meetings. The frequent usage of emojis during meetings would influence the creation of some emoji-based standing rules in 2021-2022, when meetings returned to an in-person format.
Some notable emojis included Pot of Greed, "Pot of Dhreed", Shield (KGB's crest), Octoplus/Octominus, and Luigi.
