The Thing is The Thing.
Currently, it is composed of a ring of pennies that have been fused together by some means that modern scientists are still trying to replicate. The Thing may or may not include a duct-tape loop that may (in desperate times) be used to affix it to one's neck. This is generally considered "inadvisable" and "gross."

Upon receiving the thing the new holder must state what is not their fault, and accept fault for something else.
